New Penn State coach Bill O'Brien has finalized most of the staff that will lead Penn State in its first football season sans Joe Paterno since 1949 next fall.
Larry Johnson and Ron Vanderlinden, holdovers from Paterno's final staff, will be retained as defensive line coach and linebackers coach, respectively. Stan Hixon (wide receivers coach), Charles London (running backs coach), Mac McWhorter (offensive line coach) and John Strollo (tight ends coach), meanwhile, will jump on board to form a majority of the offensive staff. These hirings were announced on Thursday.
Penn State announced the additions of two more coaches on Friday. Former Auburn assistant Ted Roof was confirmed to be the Nittany Lions' new defensive coordinator while South Carolina assistant John Butler was named the team's secondary coach.
O'Brien has said he will be calling the offensive plays next season, so the team likely will not have an offensive coordinator.
