Despite playing one of their best games in a month, Pitt failed to snap their six-game losing streak as they lost to No. 1 Syracuse, 71-63 on Monday night. The win was Syracuseâs 20th of the season, and their first regular season victory over Pitt since 2004.
The loss was Pittâs eighth in-a-row,
Syracuse (20-0, 7-0) took a 13-0 lead to start the game and Pitt could not recover. The Panthers, who never held a lead in the game, could only come as close as four points for brief periods in the first and second half.
Ashton Gibbs, Cameron Wright, and Lamar Patterson led the Panthers with 10 points a piece. Talib Zanna and John Johnson both added nine points.
Syracuse was led by Scoop Jardineâs 12 points and 10 assists, and Fab Meloâs 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dion Waiters, came off the bench and put in 16 points for The Orange.
Pitt, who are off to their worst start ever in the Big East, at 0-6, will try to avoid losing their eighth-straight game on Saturday night at home against Louisville, who has lost two of their last seven games.
