The Pirates have avoided arbitration with relief pitcher Chris Resop, agreeing to a one-year, $850,000 deal, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Bill Brink.
The 29-year old Naples, Fla. native posted a 4.39 ERA in 76 games and 69.2 innings pitched with the Bucs in 2011. He also racked up 79 strikeouts against 30 walks. The Pirates paid him $432,000 last season, so like pretty much all players who are offered arbitration the year after making the league minimum salary, he'll be getting a considerable raise in 2012.
The 2011 season was by far the most productive of Resop's career after previously spending time with the Angels, Marlins and Braves. His strikeout total was 53 higher than his previous career high of 26 and his innings pitched total was 48.1 higher than his previous career high in that category as well. He is scheduled to become a free agent in 2015.
