Sidney Crosby Injury: Penguins And Fans Need To Have Patience, Says Dejan Kovacevic

Dejan Kovacevic debunks criticisms of Sidney Crosby, who Penguins fans are still waiting on in the midst of a second extended absence due to concussion symptoms. The article comes as we wait for Crosby's planned chat with the press, which will take place on Friday at "about noon" in advance of the Penguins' game against the Panthers.

How dare anyone question Crosby's desire, much less teammates who should know him best?

Has everyone forgotten so quickly who this extraordinary athlete is, about his passion â€" no, obsession â€" for the game?

How about silently playing a month on a broken foot in 2007?

This sounds about right. Many of the criticisms one hears whispered about Crosby are rooted in frustration, and probably also in the fact that concussion injuries don't involve walking around on crutches, or anything particularly visible. It's just very frustrating and nebulous. As Kovacevic notes, Penguins GM Ray Shero said Thursday that Crosby was "not medically cleared to play." Pens fans need to have patience.
