Pitt: Losing streak by the numbers

After being embarrassed by Rutgers 63-39, (fewest points scored at home since 1950) on Wednesday night, the Panthers are in danger of having a season to forget.

Pitt (11-6, 0-4), has lost their fifth straight game, their longest losing streak under head coach Jamie Dixon. And with the schedule they have coming up, I wouldn’t bet on the losing to stop anytime soon.

Here are some interesting numbers to look at from Pitt’s five game slide:

  • 0-4: Pitt’s worst start in Big East conference play since 1999.
  • 9: Pitt’s ranking in the AP and Coaches Polls in week 2.
  • Unranked: In both polls with no votes in week 10.
  • 15: Consecutive Big East conference games DePaul lost before beating Pitt on January 5th.
  • 17%: Ashton Gibbs’ percentage from three-point range during the streak. (5-of-28).
  • 9-5: Record Pitt needs to finish the season with to be .500 in the Big East.
  • 21.1%: Percentage Pitt shot from the field against Rutgers, the worst performance by any team from a major conference this season.
  • 3: Number of ranked teams in Pitt’s next three games. Marquette (25), Syracuse (1), Louisville (15).
  • 10: Consecutive years Pitt has been in the NCAA Tournament. That streak is in jeopardy if they don’t turn things around quickly.

Pitt goes on-the-road to face No. 25 Marquette (13-4, 2-2) on Saturday at 2pm.
