Pens: Don’t Give Up on Crosby

Sidney Crosby has been one player that has never needed to explain things to fans. He went out and won on the ice and that’s all fans were worried about.

But now, Sid is going through the toughest stretch of his hockey career, a career that some have already said is tarnished.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed Penguin fans going after each other, most of which on the topic of Sid.

To say it’s a frustrating time for Penguin fans is a huge understatement. We aren’t used to losing and we all know that. Wednesday night against Washington marked our sixth straight loss.

Social media can be a way to connect to our players but it can also be a way for media/fans to express their own rumors or “inside information”.

So, mix in frustrating and rumors about Sid and an all out war breaks loose.

I took to Twitter and asked the question:

“What are your thoughts on Sid’s prolonged absence and some fans being frustrated that he is being “babied”?”

I was excited to see that my followers understood his situation and knew that his set back is tougher on him, than it was on us, the fans.

@ActionJackson66: “Now that he’s been out for over a year, constant updates not needed.  His career might be over, no need for updates.”

@GreenEyedLilo: “I find it a bit worrisome that Crosby’s not coming back at the same pace as others; I don’t think he’s being “babied”.”

@JohnTheMessnger: “I don’t want updates till something significant changes. It takes away from the guys on the ice. It’s all about the team.”

@stapler_87: “There’s no point giving updates when he hasn’t felt better consistently for a while.”

@cobro55: “I’d just like a honest sounding answer.  Flyers gave their fans one with Pronger. Pens don’t owe any info, but it’d be nice.”

Those are just a few of the responses I got. Overall most of the responses defended Sid and defended the Penguins.

My own opinion of this situation is that finger pointing is going to get us nowhere. It’s extremely frustrating having fans jump to conclusions by saying, the Pens won’t make the playoffs and Sid will never return.  Where is the hope in that?

Sid, is one hockey player who does not deserve one bit of criticism. He’s also the type of man who might take it hard to see his own fans bash him.

We’ve been through so much the last few years. It’s been a rough start to 2012, but I have a feeling that the fans who stick around will be rewarded. Remember, the Pens were in 11th place in February of 2009 before they made their run to the Stanley Cup.

I’m confident that the team, coaches and management will make the changes that are necessary to help this team get rewarded with what they deserve, a fourth Stanley Cup.

Stay positive and remember that this is OUR team. #C
