The Pittsburgh Penguins continued to control the action in the second period of their matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning and maintained their 2-0 lead after forty minutes at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Pens enjoy a 32 to 13 advantage in shots on goal.
Richard Park nearly added his second goal of the night, rocketing a shot from the slot off the post. Tampa enjoyed a few more scoring opportunities in the second, but it the twenty minutes were again dominated by Pittsburgh. NHL leading scorer Steven Stamkos has yet to put a shot on goal, as Marc-Andre Fleury and the Pens defense have clamped down on the Bolts offense.
It was a chippy second period, as the Bolts bad boy Steve Downie took a run at both Matt Cooke and Deryk Engelland. Downie was sent off the ice at the end of the period for roughing Cooke. It was his second penalty of the period, as he was sent to the box earlier in the second for boarding Craig Adams. The Lightning have lost seven in a row, and Downie has taken it upon himself to make things interesting.
